Botox

BOTOX is a purified protein that causes muscles to relax. Originally this was useful in the treatment of many neurological conditions. Doctors using this groundbreaking medicine noticed that, as a side effect, deep lines in patients’ foreheads softened and their skin smoothed out.

Since then BOTOX has been used to successfully treat wrinkles and facial creases. BOTOX is most often used on lines around the eyes (also known as “crow’s feet”), frown lines in between the eyebrows and forehead lines. You can use in the lower face as well for lip lines, jaw line, lip flip, and help the corners of the mouth to turn upward.

How Does BOTOX Work?

BOTOX is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles just under the skin and does not require anesthesia, resulting in only minor discomfort, not pain. In general, you may notice results within a few days but the full effect takes up to 14 days to show and will last approximately 3-4 months before a repeat treatment is recommended. The reason you need to repeat treatment is that muscle action eventually returns and the wrinkles begin to reappear. As you continue with treatments you will likely notice that the return of wrinkles or lines becomes less severe over time since you are virtually training your muscles to relax.

Are There Do's & Dont's?

The whole process is incredibly quick and requires almost no down time for recovery. You will be able to return to your normal activities the same day but avoid strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours. Do not massage the treated areas as we do not want to alter the placement. There may be minor pain or swelling at the injection site and on rare occasions, you may develop a headache which should resolve quickly. It is best to avoid alcohol starting a few days before the procedure as well as stop taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications before treatment to reduce bruising.

FAQs

BOTOX® Cosmetic targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Judy will inject these muscles with BOTOX® Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your forehead lines, crow’s feet lines and/or frown lines between your brows.

Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the treatment area.  Lines can continue to smooth for 2-3 weeks and typical results last for 3-4 months.  Individual results will vary with reappearance of lines. Individual results will vary on reappearance of lines.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment. You should not lose the ability to show expression when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy. It is important to talk to Judy about the results you want from treatment.

A very small insulin syringe is used to inject your muscles.  Ice can also be used prior to injections.  Most clients do not express any major/extreme pain with botox injections.

Judy will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatments for you.  Your appointment time is 30 minutes so that Judy has time to discuss your expectations, before pictures if desired, facial mapping and then injecting.

After your Botox treatment, you can resume your day.  Judy will give you aftercare instructions specific for Botox.

Visible results have been shown to last up to 3 – 4 months. Your own results may vary – be sure to talk to Judy about what you can expect and when to schedule your next appointment.

Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you’ve “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes lines is temporarily reduced, so you can still frown, smile or look surprised!  Most clients tell me that their family, friends, co-workers don’t suspect Botox at all!  They routinely ask my clients if they have a new hair style or wearing new makeup!!

Yes. BOTOX® Cosmetic has also been clinically evaluated in male patients. In clinical studies for moderate to severe frown lines, 17.5% of patients treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic were men. In the clinical studies for moderate to severe crow’s feet, male patients comprised approximately 10% of patients treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 10% of all cosmetic procedures performed in the United States in 2014 were on men—that is more than 1 million cosmetic procedures. The number of cosmetic procedures for men increased by 273% from 1997 to 2014.
